Recipe: Anti-Inflammatory Hot Chocolate

The hats and scarves are back on display. Coats are getting thicker, shoes are giving way to boots, and every pocket is filled with kleenex. ‘Tis the season wherein everyone is looking for a little more warmth, and a little less sneezing. If you’re in that boat, you’re in luck! Our Anti-Inflammatory Hot Chocolate recipe will help keep both kinds of cold at bay.

How it works

With turmeric, ginger, cayenne, and cinnamon, this recipe packs a punch!

Turmeric – natural anti-inflammatory, antioxidant

Ginger – natural anti-nauseant, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, helps balance blood sugar

Cayenne – natural painkiller, liver-stimulant

Cinnamon – antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, helps balance blood sugar, helps fight bacterial and fungal infections

In addition, cacao powder (which makes up the bulk of this recipe) has antioxidant properties, and is a good source of magnesium and iron.

Together, these ingredients can help prevent colds, fight them off if they sneak through, and help with other inflammation-related complaints. I once whipped up a batch of this for my dad, and his headache vanished within the hour. Plus, it’s SUPER delicious.

Ingredients:

4 Tbsp Cacao Powder
1/4 tsp each of: ground turmeric, ground ginger, ground cayenne, ground Ceylon cinnamon
Water and/or Milk of choice

Optional:  raw honey or stevia to sweeten

Mix together the dry ingredients in a container. Portion out one Tbsp of the mixture in a mug. Add 1/4 cup of hot water and stir until well mixed. You can then fill the rest of the mug with hot water or a steamed milk of your choice (I use coconut). Add your sweetener of choice (if desired), stir again, and serve!

In addition, you can float a few Dandies Marshmallows on top. While they won’t help in the inflammation department, they sure will help improve your levels of joy!
